Litigation and Liability Presented by Kathy Warwick, RD, CDE & Michael Phillips, Esquire, on Wednesday, September 20, 2-3 PM EDT
Have you ever personally been named in a lawsuit? Have you worked in a facility that was sued for a poor outcome? The litigation process can be daunting and RDNs are not immune from legal challenges to our practice. In this webinar we will discuss common issues in healthcare litigation and what the RDN can do to minimize the risk as an individual, as a member of the healthcare team, and as an employee. Join Michael Phillips, Esq. and Kathy Warwick, RD, CDE for this important and lively discussion.
Dietary Recommendations for Cardiovascular Disease Presented by Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD, FAHA, FNLA, FASN, CLS, on Thursday, September 28, 2-3:30 PM EDT
With so much media coverage of nutrition recommendations for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD), it’s no surprise that consumers are confused about how best to structure their diets. Even RDNs may have a difficult time staying current and interpreting the data. This session will examine the most current dietary recommendations for the prevention of CVD, the science behind these recommendations, discuss current controversies and the underlying science, the key strategies for dealing with controversies, and using food-based dietary recommendations. Attendees will learn about practical approaches to counseling patients and clients about saturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, sodium and cholesterol, blood pressure control, stroke risk and use of statins. The program will also cover the American Heart Association’s Presidential Advisory on Dietary Fats, published in June 2107, and the public debate that surrounds this. RDNs are well positioned to teach/counsel on a food based approach as a strategy for CVD prevention that can help people move beyond the controversies.
